“Although Fowler’s film could be said to be ‘concerned’ with Cornelius Cardew, even that term must be used advisedly. Like his previous films Fowler’s recent project is not a documentary in the conventional sense. However, this kaleidoscopic and enigmatic view of Cardew’s life and work, realized through unconventional juxtapositions of first-person interviews, recent and archive footage, still photographs, short animated sequences and predominantly unreleased music, is entirely appropriate to the subject matter” – Sarah Lowndes, Frieze.
“What Mr Fowler, himself a musician, has created is a memory play; a sampled, impressionistic history. If Fowler is one of our new historians, I welcome him. He has a lot to teach us” – Holland Cotter, New York Times.
Luke Fowler is a Glasgow-based artist and musician. He had his first US solo show at TART, San Francisco in 2004. He has recently shown at White Columns, New York; PS1, New York; Kunsthalle, Zurich and Tate Modern amongst others and has upcoming shows at Serpentine, London and New Museum, New York. Fowler is the recipient of the first Derek Jarman Award.
